The Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives H.E. Mr. Wang Fukang attended the inauguration of the Thinadhoo Solar Energy Power Station Phase 1 Project in Thinadhoo and the Contract Signing Ceremony of its Phase 2 Project in Male' on 25th and 26th January. The Environment and Energy Minister H.E. Mr. Thoriq Ibrahim, Thinadhoo Island Councilors, senior members of STELCO, and the Managing Director of CECEP Solar Energy Technology, Mr. Huang Xinghua also participated in the event.
This is an experimental project by the Maldivian Government to promote solar energy production in the country, and it is the first solar energy project to be implemented by a Chinese company in the Maldives. With the completion of this project, 50% of electricity supply in the island would be provided through solar energy.
