The Chinese Ambassador to Maldives H.E. Mr. Wang Fukang visits Addu City

From 14th to 15th May 2014, the Chinese Ambassador to Maldives H.E. Mr. Wang Fukang visited Addu City in the Maldives, and held a discussion with the Mayor of Addu City, Mr. Abdulla Sodiq, and visited the Addu City Police Station, the Hospital and the Chinese housing cooperation project.

Mayor Sodiq, representing the 30,000 Adduans, expressed warm welcome to the Ambassador and the delegation’s visit and gave a detailed introduction about the Addu city. Mr. Sodiq highly appraised for China’s housing project which is to be carried out in Addu soon,as well as the bilateral cooperation in human resources, and noted that Addu has a unique advantages in tourism, fishing and other fields, and expressed his willingness to attract Chinese investment to Addu .

Ambassador Wang expressed that in recent years, China-Maldives relations have developed smoothly and achieve impressive results. Addu is the second largest city in the Maldives, and has great potention for cooperation with China , and China would further strengthen bilateral cooperation in trade, tourism, human resource development, infrastructure and other areas, promoting friendly exchanges between Addu City and relevant Chinese cities to benefit both peoples, facilitating in-depth development of China-Maldives friendly relations.

Ambassador Wang visited the damaged Addu Police Station, and exchanged views with the head of local police station.

Ambassador Wang also visited Addu City hospital, investigating possibilities for further opening-up and cooperation in the health sector.

Ambassador and the delegation visited and inspected the housing project which is part of Chinese assistance to Maldives under concessional loan scheme, and conveyed greetings to the Chinese foreign aid specialists.
