(Chinese Embassy in Maldives, 3rd December, 2014)
2014-12-03 22:33

Dear Colleagues from CAN DO,

Friends from Media,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Welcome to Chinese Embassy!

Today is a special day, because we are happy to announce that Chinese Embassy will partner with ARC and all major disability organizations in Maldives to found Child Advocacy Network of Disability Organizations, which we all know as “CAN DO”.

As a unique network, “CAN DO” will provide a platform to exchange idea on the rights of children with disabilities, to raise awareness, and to advocate for their rights.

Throughout the year of 2015, we will hold panel discussion, conduct workshops and training, make documentaries and launch a website.

We are very excited to be the sponsor and partner of “CAN DO”.

Today is a special day, because it is also the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

This year the theme is “Sustainable Development: The Promise of Technology”.

We believe it is very befitting for us to make use of technology like documentaries, TV, and Internet to advocate the rights of children with disabilities.

In doing so, we hope we can help them to achieve sustainable development.

Today is also a special today for me, because this is my first day in office after attending the Central Conference on Work Relating to Foreign Affairs in China.

In this high level conference, the Chinese leadership has laid down the guidelines, basic principles, strategic goals and major mission of China's diplomacy in the new era.

“Win-win cooperation” and “Chinese dream” are some of the key words for this conference.

China will continue to follow the win-win strategy of opening-up and a win-win approach in every aspect of our external relations such as political, economic, security and cultural fields.

China will also continue to pursue the Chinese dream, which is also about peace, development, cooperation and win-win outcomes. And this dream is not only about the well-being of the Chinese people, but also the people of all other countries including Maldives.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

China and Maldives are close neighbors bound by common destiny of development.

There are about 83 million disabled people in China.

While we are also trying to improve their livelihood back in China, it is also our dear hope that we can help with the people with disabilities in Maldives, so that our two countries and two peoples can achieve development and prosperity together.

Just like the name of our project suggests, together, we CAN DO it!

Thank you!
