H.E. Abdulla Shahid, FM of Maldives Paid an Official Visit to China in 2019

At the invitation of H.E. Wang Yi, State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, H.E. Abdulla Shahid, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives paid an official visit to China from September 17th to 21st, 2019.

When paying the courtesy call upon Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan, Shahid noted China is the Maldives' great neighbor, generous cooperative partner and trustworthy friend. Vice President Wang Qishan said that the Chinese side is ready to work with the Maldivian side to jointly build the Belt and Road Initiative with high quality, promote the sustained and healthy bilateral relations & build a community with a shared future for mankind.

During the bilateral talks between H.E. Wang Yi and H.E. Shahid, both sides reiterated readiness and commitment to promoting the future-oriented, all-round friendly and cooperative partnership through high-level contacts, pragmatic cooperation, people-to-people exchanges, etc, which ushered in a new chapter of China-Maldives relations.

After the bilateral talks, the two sides signed 3 MoUs, covering areas of cooperation between the two foreign ministries, sports as well as economic and technical assistance, which brought fresh momentum into the pragmatic cooperation between China and Maldives.

When meeting the press upon the conclusion of the visit, H.E. Shahid said he was very pleased with the fruitful outcomes of the visit, which he believed would further boost the sound and in-depth development of China-Maldives relations in the future.
