Inauguration Ceremony of the Embassies

The Embassy of the Republic of Maldives in China was established on August 20th, 2007. On April 3rd, 2008, President Hu Jintao accepted the letter of credence from the first Maldivian Ambassador to China Ahmed Latheef.



On May 26th, 2008, the Maldivian Embassy in China was dedicated in Beijing. Visiting Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister He Yafei and Ambassador Ahmed Latheef attended the ceremony.


H.E. Shahid said the Maldivian Embassy in China formally declared to be established during the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Maldives and China. The two countries have remained good relations and the establishment of the embassy will make the bilateral relationship closer and deeper.


H.E. He Yafei said that the establishment of the embassy is the milestone in the history of China-Maldives relations. China-Maldives relationship has become the model of equal treatment, sincere cooperation and harmonious coexistence between large and small countries.


On November 8th, 2011, the Chinese Embassy in the Maldives held a grand opening ceremony in Male, capital of the Maldives. Deputy Chinese Foreign Zhang Zhijun, Chinese Ambassador Yu Hongyao, presidential envoy Zaki and Speaker Shahid unveiled the placard of the Embassy.



H.E. Zhang Zhijun said that China and the Maldives are good friends and good partners and enjoy a long tradition of friendly exchanges. The inauguration of Chinese embassy in the Maldives is a significant event of bilateral relations and will help further strengthen the bilateral friendly exchanges and mutually beneficial cooperation.


On behalf of President Mohamed Nasheed and the Maldivian government, H.E. Zaki extended warm congratulations on the inauguration of the Chinese embassy. He said the Maldives appreciates China's support for its economic and social development and welcomes the establishment of Chinese embassy which will help promote the bilateral friendly exchanges and pragmatic cooperation.



On October 19th, 2011, the first Chinese Ambassador to Maldives Yu Hongyao presented his letter of credence to President Nasheed.
