In recent years, China-Maldives cooperation has enjoyed rapid development in a number of areas. The police cooperation is an important one among all the cooperation areas. In 2014, an agreement of motorbike donation was signed, witnessed by Chinese President Xi Jinping and former President Yameen, with total value of 2 million Yuan to help Maldives improve the capacity of its police force.

On 20th Jan. 2015, both sides held an official ceremony, on which 150 motorbikes donated by the Chinese government were handed over to Maldives Police Service.

At the handover ceremony, H.E. Wang Fukang, former Ambassador of China to Maldives, highlighted the close cooperation between police services of China & Maldives, pointing out that the increasing number of Maldivian police officers participating Chinese training programs year by year is an evidence.

At the ceremony, Hussein Waheed, former Commissioner of Maldives Police Service, expressed the Maldivian government’s gratitude to the Chinese government for helping MPS, adding that the motorcycles would be a great asset to MPS and a symbol of exchange & cooperation between both sides.

After being put into service, the donated motorbikes made great contribution in enhancing MPS’ service capability, which was very important for the MPS to maintain public security.

On 22nd Feb. 2022, H.E. Wang Lixin, Ambassador of China to Maldives and Mohamed Hameed, Commissioner of Maldives Police Service, jointly signed the Agreement of Police Communication System Aid Program. According to the Agreement, the Chinese Government will provide 1 million Yuan’s police communication equipment to MPS. China is ready to push forward the police exchange & cooperation between the two countries!
